Sportsmeat Trivia

A little trivia for Wednesday:

1. Only one player has ever won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. Who is he?

2. Only one player has won the Defensive Player of the Year award with two different teams. Name him.

3. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson currently are 1-2 in the world golf rankings. Who is No. 3?

4. Of the eight quarterbacks left in the playoffs, six of the eight finished in the Top 8 in the passer efficiency ratings. Which two did not?

5. Who's lying - Brian McNamee or Roger Clemens?

Also, here are the updated standings for the playoff pool (with college bowl series points in parentheses):

EJ - 196 (83.5)
Budds - 191 points (65)
Joe - 188 (85)
Maxipriest - 176 (70.5)
Dave Law - 116.5 (39)
Big Thunder - 108 (30)
Snoop - 97 (0)
Y.A. Shoes - 35 (0)

Comments:
I think there should be a bonus for winng all points in the bowl spectacular. I am thinking anything over 8 points.

Not many ideas on the trivia:
3. Did stricker make it that high yet?
4. Eli and rivers?
5. Can we answer both are?

All complete guesses...
1. LT
2. Reggie White
3. Vijay
4. Rivers and Eli
5. Both. McNamee thought he was buying and injecting 'roids, and Clemens, contrary to his claims, believed that, too. But it was actually a saline solution. Rocket's boost was completely due to a placebo effect. In a related story, McNamee once bought Pixie Stix for $120, thinking they were new flavors of cocaine, and after snorting the contents, he spent an entire afternoon pacing around his apartment mumbling the lyrics to the Subterranean Homesick Blues.

You guys pretty much got it.

1. was LT (he won in 1981 and 82, as well as 86.) He was really amazing -- still the best defensive player I've ever seen, and quite the actor as well.

2. was Reggie, who won the two awards 12 years apart, also pretty amazing for a defensive end.

3. actually is Steve Stricker. Golf people -- how did this happen. Is Stricker winning events I'm not watching, or have Vijay, Els, Goosen, et. al just tanked?

4. is Rivers and Manning -- funny since they were traded for each other. The two Top 8 QBs who didn't make it to the divisional round are Roethlisberger and Jeff Garcia.

5. I'm still trying to figure what I make of this. I do think they're both lying, I just don't know to what extent. I also don't know how extensive the dossier on Clemens is. Clemens hasn't failed a test, and anyone can accuse anyone of anything, so I hesitate to be sure he's totally guilty. That said, why would McNamee lie to the feds? (especially when he seems to have one huge man crush on Clemens). Why wouldn't Clemens get injections from a doctor (especially for his back)? And can't you take B12 as a vitamin? Do you really need a shot there?

I'm trying to not let the fact that I detest Clemens cloud my judgment here, but if I had to choose, I'm guessing he did it and all his protestations to the contrary are just the manifestations of his supreme arrogance.

1. and 2. One of these is Reggie White, so I'm picking him on both
3. Don't know, don't care.
4. Eli and Rivers
5. McNamee

Without looking:

1. LT seems almost too obvious, but I can't think of any others.

2. Reggie White

3. Um...Someone like Adam Scott.

4. Eli and Rivers?

5. The only one I'm sure about - Clemens.

EJ, as to your stricker question, I peek in on golf every now and then, and it seems like for the last six months, stricker has been in contention of almost every tournament. I think he won at least one...

By the way, if you watched last weekend's Giants-Bucs game, Strahan had one pass rush that was absolutely classic. After trying a few speed rushes, he just bullrushed Jeremy Trueblood straight back into Garcia, essentially sacking the two of them together. It was a thing of beauty.

When I think of great defenders of the 90s (like LT and Reggie White), I put Bruce Smith right up there with the others. That dude was able to take over a game on defense.

I was under the impression that it took a lot to move up (or down) in the golf rankings, since they're based on a full 52 weeks of play (maybe even more). But Stricker finished second in Maui and won the first of the four FedEx Cup tourneys last fall. Also, a lot of the better players don't play much in the fall, so he might have made up some ground then.
