Choose wisely
The football pick 'em season is winding down, but the intensity gets a little boost this week, with five-pointers in each of the conference championship games ("negative pride" suspended, since there are only two games).
CHICAGO 2.5 New Orleans
INDIANAPOLIS 3 New England
E.J. takes the Saints and Colts; Big Thunder takes the Saints and Pats; and Budds takes the Bears and Colts.

Taking the Saints and Pats - F the Mannings!
Big Grill, do you hear that? I'm coming for you. 2pts down 2 weeks to go.
Hey Budds - how does this work after football? Are we going to be handicapping hockey or women's lacrosse (not fair - EJ has an advantage)? Or do we retire pride points until FB comes back again. I need to know these things; I have to prepare myself mentally.

Oh yeah, Happy B-day, budds.
And yes, I know I'm calling out Grill for the 4th worst spot but still, I have to play for something.

We'll certainly be back for the NCAA Tournament (men's, that is), but I have to say picking baseball and NBA games isn't nearly as much fun.
Saints and Pats
It'll be a cold day in hell before two black coaches face off in the SuperBowl. JK. Dogs had a great week last week. I'm sticking with what works.

Love the trash talk. Pride on the line, indeed.
Ya, E.J. brought up your question offline last week, but I don't think there were any ideas beyond what he's mentioned. One thing he did mention, which I liked, is the idea of ditching spreads next year. It's more fun to cheer for a team than for a number.
We could try doing NBA parlays -- pick three to win, or something like that. But until March rolls around, I can't think of any good contests. I do expect to figure something out for golf's majors, like a pick five guys and add up their points sort of thing.
And after football, I think we can reset the standings to zero, to put everyone on even footing for the rest of '07.
